6 Devon wedding venues for weekend weddings

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

Having a weekend wedding gives you extra time to enjoy with your guests. You are able to take your time to set up on the Friday and truly relax on the Sunday with some fun activities on the agenda. Devon has some wonderful venues that are perfect for weekend weddings. Here are my top 5 recommendations.

This stunning venue, nestled between 20 acres of Dartmoor countryside, is a gorgeous venue for any Devon wedding.

The Manor House accommodation sleeps 75, and the cottage, 11. But there’s also the option of camping, too, so you can invite everyone on your list. Colehayes has numerous locations where you can put a marquee for bigger weddings, to accommodate up to 250 people.

Get married inside the venue, or take advantage of the backdrop of the river, woodlands and private lake for your ceremony. For the wedding reception, there’s a bar area, lounge, breakfast room, and even a games room and party basement for when your evening guests arrive. The Colehayes team can help with as little or as much as you need on the day.

There are extensive grounds where you can play garden games, I have hired out many here and they always go down well.

On the Sunday you can chill out and swim in the lake, hire kayaks, inflatables, do a treasure hunt, axe throwing - the list is endless. Or why not go for a walk up Haytor on Dartmoor or have a pub lunch at the nearby Rugglestone Inn.

There’s a handy Facebook page for Colehayes Park couples to share advice and support each other. This is a really unforgettable venue (and you can take my word for it— it’s where I got married!).

This East Devon wedding venue is perfect for nature lovers in search of an outdoor wedding. Higher Holcombe is a stunning location, and owners Gary and Jo have planted over 11.200 trees, wildflower meadows and an outdoor space, the ‘Willow Cathedral’ to make weddings here picture perfect. A true eco venue.

You can choose to have the wedding ceremony in the Willow Cathedral, The Silver Birch Church, or outside under the willow tree. But if the weather isn’t cooperating, you can pop up a tent or have the ceremony inside.

Your guests can stay in lotus belle tents, the farmhouse, or shepherd’s huts. For the newlyweds, there’s a quirky Hobbit-style house. The renovated Old Dairy is full of rustic charm with its chunky oak beams and vintage wooden furniture. It seats 80 for a wedding breakfast and turns into a party space for the evening festivities. There’s no corkage fee and you can hire any suppliers you’d like.

The venue also has other amenities: a huge fire pit, extensive gardens for games, and a hill perfect for a sunset photo op or slip and slide.

I'm lucky enough to have stayed here and can confirm it is the most special place. The atmosphere is so relaxing and the hosts are on hand as much or a little as you need in order to make your weekend just perfect.

This fully-refurbished 15th century barn in the heart of Devon’s countryside has a lot of wow factor. This stunning venue with high ceilings and wooden beams is an enormous space which can seat up to 190 wedding guests.

It is attached to The Roundhouse, a separate space perfect for a bar or children’s area. In case of rain, the West Barn is a great space to use welcome drinks or a relaxing lounge area. I've set up our rustic photo booth in here before, it's great space.

On site cottages can accommodate up to 30 wedding guests. Stroll through the grounds’ medieval courtyard, secret garden and so much more. So many incredible areas for photos.

The team onsite will cater the wedding breakfast and drinks reception for you. And in the evening, you can choose to hire your own food trucks to serve guests delicious food under the festoon lights by the firepit. The team at The Great Barn are so helpful and accomodating, you won't have to worry about a thing.

This stunning Georgian mansion is set in 15 acres of glorious Devon countryside. Choose from 9 places to have your ceremony from a walled garden, marbled hall, giant yurt, barns to name a few.

The grounds are big enough for garden games, there's a hot tub, swimming pool and you can even dance outside in the courtyard lit up with festoons.

After hours head to the secret under ground nightclub. This venue really does have it all - and more!

This luxury venue with boutique accommodation has so many amazing spaces to offer with loads of possibilities for whatever your dream wedding looks like. Sip cocktails in the courtyard, or share a cream tea in the 17th century Manor House. There’s also a lakeside marquee and a campfire surrounded by festoon lighting for just the right ambience. Whether you have a hog roast in The Haybarn or party the night away in The Hut—Anran is sure to give you an unforgettable wedding day.

There’s no corkage charge so you can run your own bar, use your own caterers or let the team look after you with their award-winning caterers. The owners know a thing or two about hosting a great party, so will be on hand all day to create the perfect day for you.

Give your guests a totally unique experience and let them stay in a luxury yurt village set in a glorious Devon woodland.

Have your ceremony outdoors at the thatched pavilion with the wedding breakfast in a rustic barn before transitioning to the giant tipi for an unforgettable party. If you’re planning on having children guests, there are garden games and a play area with a zip line.

The team at The Yurt Camp offers a full catering service—from candlelit receptions and hog roasts to rustic campfire suppers or cream teas—they’ll deliver a wonderful spread for your big day.

I hope these venues have given you some inspiration to have your own weekend wedding. Obviously Devon is full of gorgeous wedding venues but these are that I can personally recommend having hired my rustic wedding decor to.
